1976 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Arnold 3 (15 July) tree at 742. She was not getting chased. 750. As far as I could tell an ub ♂ and ub ♀ just got displaced from the perch tree just up from the granary by ♂ DB/WR #123. Jwvs are doing their best to eat acorns in the granary. Meanwhile, the birds are flowing over into UA2 territory. 800. ♂128 here again. Jwvs are certainly not being discouraged from getting acorns from the granary. 810. ♂128 back above storage tree again. 814. Flew over toward UA2. 815. Several birds (♂128 among them, I believe) are apparently sapsucking in a LiveOak up by Lambert's Fence. 820. Quick break to check UA2. [See UA2 notes for ♂207] and others. 1150. Back finally. 1212. ♂ub first to show up again. j288 begging from him while he eats an acorn. 1220. j288 eating acorn in storage tree; a banded ♂ landed with wings outstretched, then proceeded to walk up, displace the baby from the acorn, and eat it himself while the kit begged next to him. 1225. ♂205 (UA2?) in perch tree above storage tree here now. Several birds flying to and can be heard from UA2. 1230. ♂ crwn/Bik green #120 here in granary eating acorn and feeding one of the jwvs. 1245. j290 is here; ♂205 is sitting in the perch tree between the granary and the nest tree. ♂128 preening in perch tree above granary! 1330. Both UA2 birds still here (or back). 1332. ♂205 landed in storage tree, followed shortly by an adult
