Melanerpes formicivorus
Buckeye Hastings Reservation
4 November 1600. I was able to see 3 AW in the granary from the side of Red Hill, one of whom was working stores or holes.
5 November 1440. Watching from hide with 2 nets up. There are some stores here, and I saw more activity up here this morning.
1510. 1♀ub plus a 2nd bird here now working stores.
1530. An 2nd ub came and went. Possibly a 3rd bird also.
♀ was here most of the last 1/3 hr working stores, of which there are fairly many. They are apparently getting the acorns from down toward the guleh somewhere.
1600. There is a 3rd bird, at least, involved in all this.
1620. A 2nd ub♀: 3)♀ub is confirmed. The net is hopeless as is (definitely on the wrong side of the tree).
1530. Leaving.
10 December 1520. 1 bird seen working stores in the granary from Red Hill.
17 December 2 birds up here near dusk. The granary has about [illegible] acorns stored in it, no bad considering the productivity of the general area.
