1976 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Arnold 3 Hastings Reservation 24 March 1150. Seen was ♀207 sapsucking near UA2. See UA2 notes. 1220. Watching. 1240. Numerous birds appeared from the sap area going to the storage tree including (1)♀207 (2)♂205, (3)♂121, (4)♂122. 1300. Gone 1355. Back 1415. 2 birds eating acorns near '9S nest tree. 1430. Hard to be absolutely certain, but I'm pretty sure that I finally have (5)♂ w/w/DB-w #126. The left leg was seen well (looked w/w), but he was not #205 (no wing streamer). (6)♀255 seen also, 1448. Got a somewhat better look at 126. He, ♂, and a couple others are now in/around the storage tree eating acorns and flycatching. 1452. (7)♂ w/w/LB-w #204 over between storage and nest trees. 1500. One bird went over to sapsuck again; others still eating acorns. 1515. (8)♂ white/dark ♂#120 seen (marginally, but likely). 1520. Going. 9 April 1300. Count: Main tree/total: 4530 [1580,1550,1400] 19 April 1445. Watching. 1515. So far I've seen only one single bird; the rest have been in the form of a pack of 6 or so which have occasionally taken over a tree in the area. At 1520 they took over the Valley Oak just up from the main storage tree; there I saw (1)♂3rd /r#122 and (2)♂LB/R-w-R#204; also 2 other ♂'s and a ♀. After
