1976 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lambert Hastings Reservation 14 January 1235 Watching. 1237. ①♂ LGW#202 here, Flycatching over by Lambert fallen tree. This bird still has tail spots (another instance of an adult with tail spots). 1243. ②♀ YRW in nest tree. ③♀ub#359 near here hawking as well 1310. A banded ♂, something like ④♂ Light/Pink/Pink or ♂ Pink/Black-Blue is here, but his identity is still not certain. 1340. I still got only a poor look at his right leg, but I believe ④ is ♂ LP/m DP/DP (60th old and faded); I assume he is ♂ #14, who I had listed as DP/DP LP/m . He certainly could not have been either #116 or #119 (the latter being a remote possibility, the former negligible). 1355. ③ seen begging to ④. #359 is definitely a juvenile ⑥ Another A♂ seen, bands not. 1410. ♂ Light/Band/Light#16 finally showed himself (assumed = ⑤) 1435. Leaving, Purrees #203. Last seen 21 July, Gone by 19 October. → Disappeared about 5 Sept. 1975 ± 1 month Re ♂ #14, I paid enough attention to him when he was captured on 9 June that I doubt I mixed up his legs. The identity of ④ should remain in doubt for now; perhaps #119 isn't so improbable after all. 20 January 1000. Watching. 1020. ①♀ YRW #201 . ②♀ub#359. 1050 ③♂ or/Blue #202 1110. A bird was chased. Minutes later a ♂,♀ unbanded pair
