1976 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill Hastings Reservation (12 October) 1026 ♂ DB-LP/DB #193. 1052. ♂ Name / M #86. Others here, but I'm having a hell of a time seeing, them. 1100. Several birds on W side: ♂♂ or / 4e-Ds #297, ? ♀ / LP #296, and ♂ LB [#195?]. 1103. ♂ La-da/M #298 staring in dead tree on W side also. 1105. ♂♂ LB/LP (Red?) #296. 1120. ♂ M/Red #191 1146. I heard a Cooper Hawk call, but when I looked all I saw was a Scrub Jay who was being thoroughly hounded out of the storage area by 4 woodpeckers and was chased by the birds to the upper side of the field. ♂296 still looks like ♂ LB / LP-Red. Might check this. 1155. ♂ 9u6. 1200. leaving. 18 October Changes: ♂♂ 88, 94, and 95: all 3 moved to 1500 15 August 1976 (these birds have been seen there rather regularly since 20 August). Purge! j299. Not seen since banding on 15 June 27 October 1730. 5+ birds in the area. Counted stores: Tree 1: 349 Tree 2: 1454 1803 18 November 930. Came up to get some pictures of the acom traps/deer enclosure. Saw no birds in the main area, then walked up to S.H. "B", where 2 birds were in the old granary. They left before I could get a look, but in one of the taller perch trees up beyond it was ♂♂ J.Link/M #88. The entire S.H. "B" roost tree has fallen, by the way.
