1976 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus New School Hill Hastings Reservation 11 January 1600. Came up to set the trap over the nest/roost hole. While waiting for dusk, 8 birds flew down to the main storage area, one by one, at one point. Some pre-roost mounting was seen at 1705 up above the deer enclosure. Roosting apparently occurred somewhere up here as well. (at about 1715). At least 3 did roost in the nest tree, however. 12 January 1400. Removed a sample of ~75 acorns; also marked 75 all in the climbable 2nd tree: ① 10 Yellow just above fence (low) ② 10 Blue main trunk, past 2 limbs (tough) ③ 10 Red on trunk low ④ 15 White above③: ⑤ 15 Green on E facing limb, Red House ⑥ 15 Red above⑤
