At the limb just below the vertical limb with the holes were
numerous body and a few red-tipped crown feathers, clearly
from an Acorn Woodpecker. Perhaps where one had been
eaten previously? (What may have been Bobcat scat [which
I should check for remains] was on the next limb down).
I returned at dusk to watch roosting - and it looks
like I may be in luck! 5 birds roosted in the willow just
across the creek between the Westgate tree and the
Live Oak, a hole where I can at least attempt an
ambush. A 6th almost roosted here, but left at the
last minute, apparently to roost in one of the holes
facing (in fact, right above) the road in the Westgate tree,
where a bird was peering out at me when I passed.
10 March I was ready for an ambush, but only 3 birds apparently
roosted in the willow this evening - and 1 of them in the
top hole! I think I think jPRW#242 was one of the 2
in the bottom hole.

tree! Meanwhile sitting atop Westgate were 4 birds
