Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lower Haystack Hastings Reservation (15 November) Hay-Blom jwvs. Is not getting chased much, but there is some action up there provoked by the co-occurrence of the 2 groups. The birds there are primarily hawking. 1155. ?WARW #308 at UH top. dDBRW #309 also. All hawking 1200. ?ub in UH tree. 1205. ?OrRW #307 landed at (his) nest hole. 1255. ?ub I believe just threatened (lightly) and displaced a 2nd ?ub, presumably an intruder, in the UHay tree. 1300. Leaving. Nobody in upper area since 1215 or so. ?8' 17land 173 still seem to be around in the main storage areas more than anyone else. 23 November Purge: j310. Seen by Pam Williams on 14 September, gone by 6 October → Disappeared about 25 September ± 1 week. 10 December 1025. ?♂ 236 eating an acorn over by the '95 nest. 1040. ?♀ (Blue/Reddish) #308 in granary briefly. Left but returned soon with ?♂ (BRW) and ?♂ (WLW) #s 171 and 173. Also ?♂ OrRW #309. Everybody scattered but all eating acorns. 1100.
