1976 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus 8 4 (19 April) between the ♀ and ♂261 in the telephone pole (!) 940. Birds are beginning to hawk steadily (it is quite warm and sunny out). 1000. The 5th bird apparently is not ♂22, the 2nd year ♂ here. I watched carefully to 1000, seeing the same 3 banded birds over-and-over, as well as the unbanded ♂, who could never positively be shown to number 2. Flash - both unring ♂ just seen together in the boarst. Oh boy. 2 April 1115. At Lower Barn. 1117. ♂259 in locusts standing bark gleaning. 1119. ♂261 just landed here also ♀16 and ♀ running now here too. Two intruders, an unbanded ♂ and ♀, were in the locusts briefly; flew out immediately when other birds returned. Flew up toward MacRoberts. (1140. The ♀ and an unring ♂ performed a good "copulation": the ♂ fluttered on the ♀ for a few seconds, hopped off,
