Polyporus vasoider L. on an old stench, at Aukdalt, 2 May 1839.
Pilei cariaceus, intricatus, coarsely wrinkled, concentrically, zonati,
pili rilli: alternately sick blush-black, tillomas, fine substriatim,
subangular, yellawish-white.
Pilei 1-3 inches broad; more than 1 inch long, deflected at the point
of attachment, capitularially striated, having lines 1 mm. of which are
bilinea, thin, smooth, some column of a pale tannine yellow, blackish,
brown, with a hue of blue. The colors radiate from a center: the margin
May be incurved.
In specimens from 12 feet above Kunmara growing on old
bird trees, scarcely any tannine color is visible. The substance
of the pilei is tough as wood.
