Agaricus aculeus, Bolt? mounting fleshtus, Druckerra 17 Oct. 1886
Aggregate. Pileus umbrella-shaped, umbonate, the margin at
length recurved, minutely tuberculate about the umbo; semibrown
coloured. Gills adnate, whitish below, pale yellowish at their
joining with the pileus. Stem solid (stuffed) below cased in
squamous tuberculate membrane involucre, with st. pileus, pale
and silky above.
Pileus over an inch in dia. rather acutely umbonate; the
thin breaking up into minute scales, hence appearing tuberculate,
between the squinies this and the sides of the stem expanding upwards
make st. pileus stuffed with a white fibrous substance.
Gills 4 in a set, whitish or whitish-yellow above. Stipe,
pale subelliptical.
Stem 1-1½ inches high, surrounded below by a cylinder of pileous
back; whitish and striated above, brownish-yellow
Odour scarcely appreciable or 'of A. campestris.
Shaw cut the figure of Bolton t.151, but that of Scopoli, A. pratensis,
t. 247 can by no means be referred to this.
