99 HYRDOCK Melanopipes formicivorus 1800 HASTINGS 6 April 9:45 - No birds seen. No evidence of nest. 25 April 9:30 - Opened new hole in traditional roost tree. Birds seen in this hole on several occasions. But no eggs found. Two ♀ breeders so possible that they are egg tossing. 29 April 10:30 - Walt checked hole again - still nothing. 1 MAY 5:30 - Observations to see started to see if they are egg tossing. 6:30 - Still no bird seen to go near hole - Are they using another hole - perhaps last years roost hole? (Can't see well enough from where I am sitting to know for sure. 6:40 - Bird leaves hole - I missed him/her going in because I was observing another ♀ on another branch. 7:30 - Two birds almost went in hole after 6:40 bird left. The first was ♀ 2940 - she went to nest hole <1 min after 6:40 bird left hole. About 20 min later. BM 2680 - Came to hole but also left before entering hole. 7:40 Ended observations - checked cavity. No eggs found. 3 MAY 5:34 - Egg tossing observations started. 6:30 - 2 ♀'s (2940 & [illegible]) enter hole* followed by. BM 2899 - Stay in hole about 15 min - All leave within about 1 min of each other (♀, ♂, ♀). 7:15 - End obs to check roost *(traditional hole)
