2000 HAYDOCK 2001 MELANERPIES FORMICIVORUS LOWER ARNOLD 2 HNHR 30 MARCH 15:45- LA2 has done a good job over the last couple of years creating a respectable new granary after have lost their old huge granary. About 90% of available holes are filled with an acorn. No birds or evidence of a nest seen. 12 April 11:58- Bird in hole. Lower opened hole in traditional nest tree 2 MAY 12:10 - Checked for hatching- 4 healthy babies about 3-4 days old. 2001 10 JUNE 17:30- Check nest. 3 eggs (marked 1, 2, 3 by WDK) 26 JUNE 15:40 - Checked nest - 4 nestlings about 5 days old. One nestling is about 1/2 as big as the rest of the nestlings. 12 July 11:00- Banded 4 nestlings- so the small one survived, but it is still much smaller than his/her nest mates.(but healthy). Plenty of acorns remaining.
