2000 HAYDOCK MELANERPES FORMICIVORUS FANNY ARNOLD LINTHR 30 MARCH 16:35 - Lots of acorns in granary. No birds or evidence of nest seen. 12 April 11:45 Bird in hole. Unopened hole in traditional nest tree located on same trunk as other opened holes. Same height as lowest opened hole, but 60° clockwise (looking up) around trunk. 2 MAY 11:30 - checked for birds in cavities - No evidence of a nest. 5 MAY 10:00 - Walt checked nest (hole opened on 12 Apr.) 5 eggs - 1 of which is a runt egg. Fairly fresh (~3 days into incubation). ① 21.2 X 17.0 (runt egg) ② 26.9 X 20.4 ③ 26.1 X 19.7 New hole # 1147 16 MAY 14:15 - Walt checked nest. Found 4 nestlings. 3-4d old runt egg is gone. 1 JUNE 14:45 - Banded 4 nestlings with Walt. 6 JULY 13:50 - Banded the 3 nestlings with Erica. Plenty of acorns remaining.
