99 HAYDOCK 2000 MECANERPE FORMICIVORUS GATE 19 MAY 12:30. Walt checks new hole in sycamore, Finds 3 eggs ①25.9 x 20.1 Fresh. 20 MAY 13:40 - 5 eggs now!! So there are co breeding ♀'s in this group. Walt marked the 5 eggs - In case they lay additional eggs - to have eggs to take for looking at hormone levels. Took 1 of the 5 eggs for the same purpose. 31 MAY 13:45 - 8 eggs total, one is hatching 3 JUNE 11:00 - 7 babies. Took the two smallest - both of which were about to die. (3097+3098) 20 JUNE Hole #266 had 5 starling eggs (cold) - removed eggs. #263 has some starling nest material (removed it). Banded 5 nestlings #3124→3128. Some acorns remaining (not very many) 2000 7 April 12:10 - 3 birds seen in traditional nest tree, but none seen in a hole. A few stores of acorns in top of tree. 1 MAY 10:00 - Checked for hatching. Found 8 nestlings +1 egg. Inestling dead; another almost dead (Removed both). Also removed egg - Took DNA from all 3 (2 nestlings + egg). Embryo several days from hatching, but alive. 6 nestlings in nest range from 9.5 to 23 grams (hatched on the 24th!!) (Check Walts notes for LED date)
