2000 HAYDOCK 2001 MELANERPE FORMICIVORUS LOS ARBOLITUS H NHR 20 MARCH 14:30 - 4 birds seen in granary; lots of acorns; no sign of nesting 26 April 9:00 - 4 eggs - bird (♀) incubating when I arrived. 2001 28 MAY 19:30 - Roost watch - bird in hole when I arrived. Left cavity. - I did not see another bird go to the cavity. 29 MAY 13:30 - Checked cavity - empty. - Possible that nestlings died last night and were removed this morning; however this seems unlikely since they were ~14 days old and there were at least 6 [illegible] (assuming one died after hatch check - see Walt's rules). Perhaps nest had failed at an earlier date? But why was a bird in the hole when I arrived? 10 JUNE 15:40 - check new nest that Walt opened in granary tree. - Empty. Birds left granary tree when I arrived. 29 June 10:00 - Took blood from hatchling that hatched in incubator. Returned hatchling and 3 eggs to nest. Took blood from 2 hatchlings at nest #1-3 7 July 14:00 - Checked nest - 5 babies now - 4 healthy; 1 very emaciated. (about 1/3 the weight of the others). Gave each healthy bird a hatchling band. Also 2 eggs with ~1 week old, dead embryos. took blood/tissue samples -
