After Boys did a fine job on bird trapping. Slips len dressed cut
Today feeling nicely. Changed wet clothes, had a cup after boys
Wagged our tent. Checked my collecting gear. Heard latest
News from Kean. Clouds broke through the cut tree opening in the edge
of the rainforest. We could see. Fir tree point through much delicatity to west
Lowland forests. Spread out beneath us, Enison below most of rim. But
Only mouse traps. Took 1 shot at bats went hacking for an hour. Shut up
Get 3 times but he would not fall. Found a frog for. Geotaneery tiny
(Yellow) - noise like a cricket. Woods very wet, good Frogelous here. One small
stream near camp has out a shallow chute thru the rock. Saw at least 4
springs of beta over camp including one flying fox (6:-6:30 P.M.)

Bottom Camp. Nothing in traps. A dusty day with some drizzle. Put out
15 more traps. Boys spent most of day putting camp in shape. Digging
between tents + fly, building pittpa-patas, digging latrine, falling
Trees. We have a good steady water supply - stream a few minutes
walk to west of camp. Trapping for bats (6:-6:30) - after went by camp but
Had no shots. Trapping after dinner - was lucky to see a Pogonmys running
our tree. Missed with .110 #12, but a 12gr #6 found him. Fortunately only
3 shot within him. Darn out but no luck. Either very little here or hardrain because of forest height. Ants eating bait on traps.

Bottom Camp. This looks like a dead collecting camp for me - I
Had only 1 trap out of 34 traps; Link #10-25. However, the one (caught
at base of vine covered tree) was a new one for the collection. M.F. 9:2:4
Believe it is P. Poison melomy's distal tip of tail dorsally prehensilior
about 15 mm - relatively short tail. Ken & David left for Biniguni
After breakfast, David to return Friday P.M. Niko arrived in camp about
11 from B, where he had been shifting our gear. He will work for Len now.
Jimmy was given his release this A.M. - Too apt to be a trouble maker. Len
says he was stealing betel nut from his tent. There was much conventional-
ized loud wailing from the boys when he left. However, they were laughing
smiling 10 minutes later. Gave Thilile 33 traps (18at-22 M.S.) Kim (10B, 3 Steel)
Losima (9 Bat 4 St.), Lim Lik (alone - all rats total 33). I have 23 M.S. & 10 Bat. Have
only a few steels left. Overcast all P.M. but no rain. Out tracking for birds.
Call another Pogonmys (dim eye shine) small tree 10' up. G's Boys 4 asking frogs + spiders.
