25) Christmas day was spent quietly at Carmel + the Hempels Gave presents to each other in the evening. Then we played cards. 26) I departed at 2:30 P.M. Hilda went with me by motor as far as Monterey. We had become inseparably attached in the seven days spent together. I departed for S.F. in distress. 27) Remained in S.F. & visited some of the new plays. 28) Dined dinner with her Swermann at the Heidelberg when I ate my first whole meat. St. Gertrud (1/4 beef when grilled but tasted flat, did not disagreeable at 4:40 P.M., I took the ferry for Jersey where breast meat meat 10 C.M., Antinella
