Going ashore I met Albert Waterhouse
who travelled to Singapore with us in
1916. The view from the harbour showed
a green mountainous island with clouds
hanging in the recesses of the higher
volcanoes, above Honolulū. On the plain
westward were pearl banks with fields of light
green sugar cane could be detected. Eastward
beyond Waikiki, Diamond Head an old volcano
aster stood sentinel + sloped steeply into
the sea.
