13 After dinner we had dance at the hotel the music furnished by a string orchestra of Dutchmen from a Dutch ship recently arrived from Java. These Dutch men mentioned the sad plight of Holland as a neutral & the carcity of food & their help lessness. 14 Visits his wife (with tiffin) at the hotel with me. He has written several books of picture + travel. One of these I bought, "The Rubs & Sights" which is on sale at the hotel for readers support. It is written in the vernacular by an American former to carry me through larger cities of the orient, Hongkong, Shanghai, Tokyo, etc. In the afternoon I went shopping Theater Street for where the Japanese stores of the Japanese
