I purchased a Chinese custom long silk grey robe silk trousers silk shoes + silk 'low cap' for $12.00 Mex. Having an ulcerated tooth I enquired for a dentist but an American resident said there were no European dentists in Peking, only Chinese which had been educated in America. I took the 8:35 P.M. train for Mukden + the Benshick saw me off. 25 at daylight we were travelling through level fields of ripe millet standing 3 feet high, Chinese were harvesting this crop in many places. Some miles away sharp rocky hills could be seen + far away higher rugged ridges. In places the rocks started the sea where low sand dunes were seen;
