96 J. HAYDOCK MELANERPE FORMICIVORUS LOWER HAYSTACK HNHR. APRIL 2. 1:30 - Male bird in upper hole, last years nest. Checked cavity, but no eggs. Slightly damp inside, but otherwise looks good. 10 April - 1:50 - Checked last years nest hole. Nobody seen. Very few acorns remaining. 19 April. 13:30 - Checked main nest hole - Nobody seen looking out. 24 April 11:00 - Checked main nest hole and looked around at other trees for more holes. No body seen in a hole. I saw 2 birds fly from tree located uphill from main nest tree (towards 1800/ hay-blum) 14 MAY 6:00 - Bird in main nest tree hole again. Wolf charked later today - Nothing inside. 21 MAY 10:00 - 4 eggs now! bird in hole. Incubated, but still look fresh. 27 MAY 14:40 - Bird in hole. Measured 2 eggs: 27.2 x 20.1, 25.4 x 20.0 3 JUNE 13:20 - 3 babies: 26, 22.5 and 22g. All look healthy. No eggs remaining. 12 August 8:45 - Heard some birds on the gazebo side of lower haystack. Nobody seen in a hole. No new acorns in granary 11 September 09:56 - No nest in hole. Dead bird on ground (very decayed) mauve (green) black metal Died in nest.
