27 April
13:20 Arrive to start a 'mate guarding' watch w/ Watt.
Have seen up to 5 birds together across canyon (Watt)
Saw Y/P ; MAUVE/D Bile ; MAUVE/M ; Unbanded ? I.D: ?
[1968] [2326] ? ?
In main storage tree. Neither breeding ?'s - Not
mate guarding 1968 at least.
14:15 End obs.
19:00 Roost watch- no birds seen to go in gramary
roost tree. (Watt reports they roosted across canyon.)
28 April
8:00 Another attempt to watch mate guarding, again
from gramary tree side of canyon (west side). Unable to
start observations until never because spotting scope had
inside condensation (dried out insun). Moved down
slope and close enough to gramary to observe
w/ binoculars- (Moved blind down)
10:00 Blind set-up, ready to start observations. Where
are the birds? (From upper observation point I
noticed that 5 birds where in gramary tree most
of the time. I assume this included some if not
all breeders - so they probably are mate guarding
now.)
19:00 Chased at least 4 birds from buckeye annex
roof tree. Jeremy reports at least 3-4 birds nested
in grainery tree, this years nest hole.
29 April
Fairly successful mate guarding observation (13:45-
done with Jeremy. Observed breeders several
Times. Birds still spending much time on east side.
