97 J. HAYDOCK MELANERPEs FORMICIVORUS CECN REFATEL HNHR 13 April 7:00 Found 4 dead babies, 3 in nest, one on ground. They probably died because they were not brooded O/N. Walt scared bird from hole during roost watch to determine which male was incubating. 26 April 15:00- They have a new nest in a new hole in their traditional tree (North side) opened and found 3 fresh eggs. 1 MAY 11:00- 6 eggs now; bird in hole when trapped. (1) 25.65 x 19.3 16 MAY 14:30 - 5 healthy babies; no eggs, so likely that all hatched and 1 baby did not make it. Largest baby 32g. 11 July 8:50- Bird in hole and I can hear small babies. Same hole as first nest (failed), 2nd successful nest 14 July 10:45- 2 babies, about the same size, larger ( slightly) is 44g. 24 July 11:00- Banded 2 nestlings - one very small (40g) the other about normal size (74g) # 2942-2943
