97 HAYDOCK MELANERPE FORMICIVORUS KEEP OUT HASTINGS 15 April 5:00- Roost ambush. Caught and painted three birds in single roost hole; the other 3 birds in a group likely roosted together in another hole in same dead snag located towards junk yard from granary. Saw 3 birds fly as I started climbing snag to remove birds, but not sure if they came from the same hole. 2448 B4 pink; 2399 B0 green 2645 B0 yellow paint. 16 April 6:00- Arrived to observe for possible egg tossing with National Geographic photographers. 6:25- 6:30- 2602 B4- observed along w/o any other birds within 15 meters of bar. 6:31- 2448 B4- observed along but she then flew to join others including males. 7:00- 2399 and 2448. Have been sitting next to each other for 20 min! - Pink (2448) then left and Green did not follow. Intruders seem to be coming in but, I have not been able to identify some birds that seem to be intruders. There has been some chasing of birds from the territory. 7:18- Again I see Pink 2448 2399 and green arrive together in fancy hue, but green leaves w/o pink. 7:30- End Observations. 21 April 11:30- checked holes - Nobody seen in a hole. 9 MAY 13:50. Checked holes - Nobody seen in a hole. 14:50. Birdin hole in dead snag, upper hole 4 eggs (1) 24.7 x (9.7), All marked w/ green spot.
