96 J. HAYDOCK 97 MELANERPEs FORMICIVORUS ROAD1 HINHR 19 April 16:45 - Checked holes in small dead trunk along dry wash. No birds seen. 21 April 12:00 checked holes. One bird seen outside upper hole in small dead trunk along wash. 18 August 8:50 - Nobody seen in a hole. Heard a couple of birds in ginnery tree on W side of road. 22 August 8:30 - Nobody seen in a hole. * 1997 * 4 April 15:30. Open new hole in big dead sycamore. ① 24.65 x 19.6 ② 24.45 x 19.1 ③ 15.8 x 19.9 (removal) [egg] Found 3 eggs, including one ant egg. Look fresh. 10 April 13:30 - Female in hole when I arrived - 6 eggs now. June 11 9:30 Bled 2 small nestlings; sandeel w/ mithing burl June 12 16:30 - Transferred their 2 abandoned babies to A.L. Nobody had visited nest or fled for the entire day. Possibly due to Githemel Kurt filming feeding (setting up to film), but this apparently incestuous group could just be weird enough that successful nesting is easily disrupted. June 30 6:50 - No birds found looking out of a hole. Some, but not a great deal, acorns remaining.
