85 HARDACK
MELANERGES FERMICIVORUS
MURE
12 MAY (continued from prev, page). Checked nest hole
find 4 almost dead and very cold nestlings (1 is just
hatching). Took those birds, warmed them up and
placed them in the aviary.
11:00 - Return to find things are quiet.
Observe the following birds during observation
[2341] MAUVE/MAUVE
RED/METAL
blue-yellow/green-white [1826] BP
m/feet/urge (w) [2339] HP
Do not see breeder male. Is he gone?
16 MAY 17:00 - Set 2 more ambushers in
granary tree.
16 MAY 19:50 - Roost watch. Reset 1 of 2 ambushers.
1 bird roosted in tree below granary tree.
Unfortunately ambush fell again as 5
birds were about to enter. Nine apparently
went in.
17 MAY 4:40 - Pulled ambush at tree below granary
and lower ambush in granary (this year's
nest hole). Yes!! Caught one bird at
each ambush. #3241 and 1826 and 2339
Took blood sample from both, considered
removing #1826 to cause power struggle, but decided
not to since this group does not appear to have
a breeder ♂, yet they nested (see above, 12 MAY)
31 MAY 14:30 - 2 of the 4 nestlings removed on 12 MAY
survived in the aviary. One was left to fledge
