3rd & 4th Months MARCH & APR健康产业 1959 31 & 30 Days 30 MONDAY 89-276 Easter Monday 18 LAE THE DAY OF THE BIG RECEPTION AT MR. & MRS. NIALL'S (D.C.) JOHN W. + MARY CALLED FOR US AT 5:15. BEAUTIFUL LOCATION FOR GARDEN PARTY. HOME WITH W. FOR LIGHT SUPPER. JOHN HOWLETT WITH US. JOHN H. SPENT ENTIRE DAY WORKING ON SKINS WITH ME, 25 TRAPS - NOTHING. HIGH OVERCAST, AIR QUIET. LAE TO GOROKA 31 TUESDAY 90-275 19 "LEATHER NECKS" CALLING Up at 6: Airport at 7: Our first day of flying in the Highlands. John W., Len, + myself. A wonderful day! Staying at Goroka to - night (over 5000 ft.). Soft cool air. Flew up the Markham, over Wan- tort, over the Mt. R.- Ramu R. Divide, up onto the cent. High- lands (Aroma, Kainantu, Aiyura). Most interesting - Flight to Chimbu, at E. end of Wahgi Valley. Took many pictures. Just a few miles from Mt. Wilhelm. In P.M. Jeep trip to Mt. Otto - Logging Camp (7000) Michael + Rod Collins. Fine location for mammals. Bought passion fruit. High Clouds. Took pict. of Mt. Michael. Letter to it. April WEDNESDAY 91-274 20 GOROKA TO LAE Lovely cool night for sleeping. Met D.C. Wm. Seel - much to do with MINJE Putting new roads thru Eastern Highlands. Off for Mt. Hagen after some delay. Flew along S. slopes of Mt. Wilhelm. Saw Kegelsugel MINJE Air strip where we will land later in trip. At Mt. Hagen, we found Fred Shaw Meyer waiting to visit us (had driven over from Nondugl). We liked him! Gave us collecting localities. Tea at the A.D.O.'s Took many pictures. Flew to Mt. Hagen where A.D.O. Ian Symon had us urt lunch. More pictures of bush dressed people. Some of the rigs are fantastic! Left in rainstorm for Goroka. Good views of Wahgi River Valley. Storm closing in, so we took off promptly + flew over a pass to N. into Markham Valley. Landed home in LAE 5:30 Passion fruit drink at J.W.'s. Hot! Letter from K.
