July 16
To Walrus Island
Left in Paws on the Tahoma at 9 am.
The day was calm and only slighty
cloudy. We arrived at Walrus I
about 12 and went ashore about
1 after dinner.
We saw almost incredible number
of Calip Mice meeting near all our
Islands along the Bracket, but
mainly on the higher part of the Island
over number of White Puffins. The
Sakaricinus was gulls from
mornin on the upper group. Drifted
with them with a few Terns and gulls
a few Black Lipped Kutterhals more
on the clifffs and a few Common
from a distant Pingo. The latter
were watched. The Gulls also
were just hatching or had
just come up to about two or three
weeks old.
Many very old Stellar Gannets
were among the breeders. One
of the men of the cutter picked
up a bird who barked above
him.
