Thursday Oct 16 To Old Kulelo (1500) Left at 9:30 and continued on through The open for a while when The ford was fairly good except when it became a creek. Saw deerfeed act for deer. Seen fresh tracks of black bear, mountain lion, pronghorn, rabbit. Main dinner at 12 at Cotton Flat a little grumpy open place (1600) We camped at Old Kulelo the site of a once populous Indian village. Now the stelkheads are fallen in number about 90 or 100 years ago a nearly as seemed broken. The Stikenes surprised the village and killed nearly all the people driving them into the canyon. The village was for a time occupied by a few people but is now deserted except by our family. Sycamore (with many berries) Crataegus Viburnum Lan Vaccaria below Poplar? Aspen Belly berry white spruce, white fir? Hemlock Poplar's site had many Larix triloba atro half denuded Friday Oct 17 To 2nd Cabin We left in good time and followed the trail through the coniferous woods. About 4 o'clock we came out on a burnt dry bench and saw 2nd Cabin. We owned a good-sized creek and followed along its bank for a while or so and then climbed the bank to the cabin. Went in about a mile and camped about South on the edge of a large open flat.
