Friday August 8 We ascended by way of the gully near Camp to the paddling 15 mile above and crossed to the Bear River valley to the N. and which across it north only to the base of a high sharp peaked mountain on which was a range beaver. On the way I shot 2 white tailed Marmotan and I caught a couple of Cinnamon. Then Marmots were common and I saw several of them among the stone patches of kaththa which seemed to be a favorite for us had lunch beneath foot of the glacier on a thin ascent a sharp ridge which led up to the higher peaks. On it was an old sheep trace but no signs more recent than about a year. Mr. ascender is an altitude of 6800 feet above where the sheep would have to feed to 6800 feet if this were any on this mountain Between our point and the Valley of Bear River which we have ascended lies a number of sharp peaks which cannot be hunted from the east side. There is no sure hope of finding sheep in this part. We have decided to move camp back to the upright side and explore through that part. In a hike we climbed 250 our camp over the mountain The Delicate and Marmotan Our quill common but we did not stop to hunt them Salix reticulata common on both sides Salix - Sage - Agalea with white flowers a flower at latitude Viretum common and above timberline. quit sprouting is alpine matured mount clear favors.
