Three years. Thinks that number has remained nearly normal any past years on account of neighboring section being better than thus when elk came in here this cattle less than usual about New Year. The calves as many as the cows on Feb 19 1826 elk = 140 calving 59 bulls producing 15 calves. Over 100 calves born died and many within 4 days. Of the time they commenced to helped and the stomachs were perforated by slimm givillows Thinks not over 1200 in Snake R. Washed from North Pahlt Salt River. Mrs Caline did this year than last. Wolves killed a calf this winter (one) in Crawford. We hunted and each day (4 days) found a fresh ele killed. There were 4 wolves male scenting around. A wolf, in heat ming at wells oil gannie Killed one only the year. Used to trap many lynx males and females. Used to be many with but one dance. Modern fitting season. One seen in March Nearly this summer. A few now here now perhaps for 10 more counting about here Elk out spent 17 or 20 y left out though Oct and most of November. Rarely mate as late as December. Has known calves later born as late as any 70. Mr Cromford counted 1150 as we drove along by the line. Mr Mckinney counted 1111 + 26 (warm time) about 10 % are calves. Caribou about 40 are calves. about 100 of the bunch are rather weaker and probably 23 were very weak.
