sweet places below.

where Jim Lewis was feeding
we estimated from 600 to 650
elk. In one bunch of 27 we
6 bulls. In a bunch of 100 were
15 bulls. In a bunch of 650
we counted 20 calves. Jim
Lewis estimated that there
were 200 dead calves from these
bunches now aggregating about
600, and that their were
at least 1000 originally before
so many of the animals went
up on the bare hills. Jim
Lewis and W[ilson] both thought
that only 10 % of the calves
are now living, and that more
would die. There are only a
few spike bucks in the herds
(the young flank year) indicating
a high mortality for the preceding
winter.
