J.E. Tayloor (Elk) Thinks this land Must be give up to the elk if They are to get along in the same country with the settlers Not in favor of the Game Reserve as it serves as a breeding place for "predatory" animals Today from Wolfs. we climb up through pine woods with sounds of the butter bending Spread Creek on the north and walk along the creek to the east end for a couple hours. we saw probably 7 Elk deer 16 or 17 and a number of elk in the hills to the east end They had been wintering on the ridge Then we were but had gone back There were very few dead ones First several pictures one or two of deer and others J.P. Nelson (Elk) Thinks there about 20,000 elk in the Jackson area country. Thinks have herd them on drug last 5 years but have increased drug last 9 years Thinks more than 75 of the adult Cows have calves. Thinks thus are more than males but is not sure. Thinks that the elk should be fed whenever necessary. Would advocate that the Jackson County area for a breeding place Last spring was in Gros Ventre and a large number had wintered without much loss. Only a few housand at most winter there Thinks they could be fed in one place the large swamp area Jackson. Thinks if this were fed in one place they would go back to the feed water. Thinks 1/4 ton per ton moved feed on elk Would prefer the State to have control of any winter reserve As a valuable asset and a benefit to them and many other
