M.E. Williams (Jackson) says the elk must be fed continuously in two feedings, one above lawn and one below. Thinks 2 acres should be grounds for the purpose of feeding. Thinks that up to 2 years ago the elk had increased but since this has decreased. Thinks that 5 years ago a decrease then even more than at any time. Thinks feeding should be done by the State. Thinks more elk winter here on account of the Preserve and in such an area for protecting the Preserve. Before the Game Preserve was established the Sierra Nevada elk herds. Thinks need not be fenced elk proof (Jackson) J.H. Chambers thinks the Sierra elk should feed as the first influence would be extended. Believes in feeding an emergency only. Thinks after that most convenient alderwood some should be left out. The swamp is the best place for feeding. If fed in the swamp are cattle in field without a fence but should be fenced stock proof
