Monday Aug 24. Hudace Lake
We got started late as the horses
had come back on the trail about
5 miles. We followed down the
creek through the brule and
made our way northward along
the shore of the lake toward its
supposed outlet. We travelled
until nearly dark and camped
on a point.
Alders and Quakeum poplar
grow along the shore of the
lake. The cuttin not common
and 9 small pigeons 10 miles in lake
Tuesday Aug 30 7 near end
Made a good start and
proceeded along the shore
the lake until nearly dark
Its shore line was mostly lined with
boulders through stretches of gravel or
occasionally a sandy beach afforded
better travelling. The woods bordering
the lake were well nigh impassable. Just
before camping however we crossed
a couple of points where the woods
were nearly bare and fairly open
The morning hung trees and deep moss
under foot. Bespeak a heavy rainfall
Saw a muskrat on the lake in the
afternoon. Red squirrels ever common
about our camp. Saw several
Porcupines during the day
