Friday Aug 12. Up Spaticeza Valley
We cached some of our flour
and many articles and left
our camp at 10.15. Picked our
way out of the thick woods to
the plain and soon reached its
valley broad and comparatively level
with many grassy terraces perfectly
level and hummocky plateaus. Saw
many tracks of moose and caribou
and the bed of a bear near our
Camp. Traveled until about 5 o'clock
and camped near the southern
edge of the valley. Started a cow
caribou and calf as we camped.
Shot 3 mall flamingos and
stunned them. Saw many antlers
in bog in valley. Many Harry moor
and ground bogsomes. Saw stirred
body of grizzly bear, but strike
was ruined.
In the evening saw a small flock (?)
Canada geese. Dan tells me that they
feed on the lower part of this river
where there are sandbars and also in
