Sunday Jan 1st. Took warm peromypous in traps and shot a bird or two. Strayed a good deal in the middle of the day. For some shots the days were windy but the magpies were not too lesser. Wednesday Jan 6th. Left our camp and descended Nahanni River and kept on down the Mackenzie. A strong head wind sprung up and delayed us very much so that by 3 o'clock we had made no more than about 15 miles about 10 miles below Nahanni River discovered a nest of Grey Owl beside the river. It was in a dead stump so just from the ground situated in a place where had been burnt over. I shot the female as she left the nest and on cut down the tree finding two young ones about 3 weeks old which were killed by surface The nest contained 3 young birds about the size of red squirrel, partially eaten continuing an m snr at last forced to lie by, so ran up into a closed of channel behind a large slant and encamped. I did some skinning, discovered a nest of the Varied Thrush and took it together with the red birds. It was built in a small space I put from the ground situated in a dense forest
