June 1 1904 Fort Simpson to 5 miles below Made an excursion to the moors before breakfast but saw no new camps. Spent the day making preparations at camp for my trip down the river and was able to hire another man Dan Leng. So now have two having already hired Archibald Goodner a young man with a trace of Indian who has lately come down from Fort Nelson. Was not able to get away until after supper but was able to start to get clear of the post. Mr must down about 5 miles and encamped on the right bank of the river banks at camp on the fort
