169 Thurs. Dec. 9 We anchored ash in the bay at Sandakan about 11 o'clock last night. I was up early and had tea as such with Mr. Maxwell-Wall. Had my bed, dressed early and wrote letters and bought some post cards before breakfast. The boat, and I had the meal alone. I took some specimens out of green, then went to Darby & Co. and bought my tickets. Then went around and called on Mr. Matthews & Dr. Foxworthy - changed some money and called at the office of "Nerald" and then Foxworthy took me up to the house and Matthews & Dr. Orme joined us at lunch - a very delightful meal. I went down to the boat and Dr. Orme & Foxworthy came down for tea. I collected a little Ophidogymnum in Matthews garden. I saw some of the Cari's Firtula in blossom. We sailed for Jolo at about 6. I am the only 1st class passenger. The boat and I dined together, had a little chin on deck later and then to bed.
