Koford 1954 1955 Journal December 29, 1954 Nr. Ft. Collins, Colorado. Finished reading & abstracting King's prairie dog thesis on microfilm. Visited Dr. Harrington, topmanit in botany, Mason, supervisor of Roosevelt Nat'l Forest, and office of "county agent." About 38° today, overcast afternoon & threatening to snow. December 30, 1954. About noon visited prairie dog colony near Spring Canyon Dam and saw Cynomys L. out the ground snow covered. About 3" snow thin. Horsetooth Reservoir half frozen over. January 2, 1955. Sunny & about 40°F. today. In mid-afternoon visited prairie dog colony and viewed Tundra & burrower. Most snowfall in Ft. Collins not melted in sunnier areas, persisting in shade. January 3. Talked with J.L. Ritzner, soils man at F+R Exp., Sta. about soils of rodents. Clear sunny day. Copied Cynomys data from maps but by B.C. Kipple ("Beke"). Visited Wellington Cynomys colony with V.B. Schaeffer. Saw one golden eagle; 2 hawks perched but none in flight (still air; smoke layers). January 4, 1955. With B.C. Kipple attended annual meeting of Crow Valley Livestock Assn. on the land utilization project (headquarters Briggsdale). This year grazing on goat land will be light (half no. animals of a few years ago) because of low rainfall in 1954 & little growth. Last year 45 days of grazing on old growth; this has been grazed off now so must wait
