Bristle-thighed Curlew
Day 20
Only a few individuals of this species
were noted. There was some tendency
preference for the grassy areas about
the central region, but individuals could
be seen anywhere about the island, including
along the open beach, especially rocky
areas. Entire population at this time is
probably less than 60.

Sooty Tern
Day 20
This was by far the most abundant
species on the island. The breeding
area is essentially the same as that
utilized last year; i.e., continuous
nesting along the entire west side
of island and port, west end wherever
brunch grass (Eragrostis) is present.
Within this past area two concentrations
were noted: 1) quite heavy
centration near the N and S some
cover about 150 yds of the main
landing. There were on fresh egg. 2) A
very heavy concentration, about the
entire SW end throughout grass cover.
This concentration apparently
started first toward the N as there
mostly have eggs, and worked south
and then E where large numbers
areas yet without egg, many setting
in large masses in the openings.
Throughout the rest of the west
side are scattered birds in varying
densities, most with egg. The actual
area utilized fluctuates greatly with
seemingly little regard to actual grass
cover available; i.e., the birds are not
spread over the entire bunch grass
area. Small colonies are located
about the rest of the island, on the
E and N sides. One colony is
