R.D. Cresson Journal 1965 SR 5°44'W; 157°32'W - 4°35'N; 157°32'W. 2nd day out Xmas to Calau Not out migrating, many moving toward SW in fect, direct flight. Four birds collected: 1 TFP, 1 BW P, 1 PIP, 1 [illegible] SP. A few Mottled Petrel (7) still coming through, 1 Sooty/573 Shearwater seen well-struggler. One [illegible] much was observed at fair range migrating toward SW. SR 9°35'N 15°24'W Heavy rain - 40F? 3rd day out Xmas → Cohn 2 November Weather fairly clear all morning, min. spell all afternoon, sea choppy. Many Juan Fernandez Petrels (37) and Black wing Petrel (5-0). All Sooty terns (115) in two flocks. Storm Petrel still showing (3) Wedgetail was with white phase more abundant (18 light - 9 dark). Total birds 258 - 146 shearpet 125 tern- Many immatures in Sooty tern flocks, 20 in one flock of 78. 4 day out Xmas to [illegible] 3 November Storm Petrel and Black-wing Petrel still abundant. one 9 each collected this morning by 1000. Weather partially cloudy all morning. Two petrels collected - 1 BW P; 1 TFP, 3 flake, 172 birds total. Except for occasional Wedgetail, Juan Fernandez Petrel and Black-winged Petrel dominated the Laysan waters. A few Mottled Petrels (4) still coming through. R.D. Cresson Journal 1965 Q 5 Nov.
