Russula (Painting B) Pileus expanded, irregular, 3 cm. diam., velvety, pruinose, alizarin pink to old rose maculate with ochraceous, flesh white, thick; taste mild; pellicle not separable; gills narrow, close, adnate, white when seen singly, but light cream from slightly darker edges; stipe slightly pinkish, but becoming warm-buff or darker where handled, subbulbous below, 2.5 cm. 7-14 mm. Specimens examined: Costa Rica, San Jose? Santa Rosa, Alt. 2580 m., Dodge & Thomas 5247
