Russula. Pileus flat, viscid, pellicle separable, margin striate, sulcate, purplish, when old, mostly citrinédrab and deep-olive, spotted; gills broad, white, not forked or only at stipe, close; stipe white, pruinose, 5 # 1.5 cm. probably soft, spongy within; whole plant old and much riddled by insects within; taste mild, spores white. Mossy bank. Specimens collected: Costa Rica, San Jose, Rancho Redondo, Alt. 23-2400m., Dodge & Thomas 5032
