Russula (Painting A) Pileus hemispheric, Indian red when young becoming ex- panded, umbilicate, slightly viscid when young become dry, sub- fibrous , margin smooth, deep vinaceous-lavender & dusky-drab, 4.5 cm. diam; flesh thick, white, taste farinaceous, pellicle separable; gills narrow, crowded, white, adnate; stipe white, tinged with pink, 2.5 cm. # 8mm., smooth. Mossy bank by roadside. Specimens examined: Costa Rica, San Jose? Santa Rosa Finca, Alt.2580 m., Dodge& Thomas 5258
