Russula. Pileus 3 cm., slightly depressed, Isabella color, floccose, verrucose on disc, [chamois] smooth on margin, over the striations, pellicle somewhat separable; taste somewhat acrid; flesh thin; gills somewhat close, not forked, cream-color; stipe thin at top, quickly larger and then equal, delicately cottony, tomentose, white, becoming light chamois where wound- ed. 25 cm. # 4-7 mm. On ground in potrero. Specimens examined: Costa Rica, San Jose, Rancho Redondo, Alt. 2250 m., Dodge & Thomas 5150
