Flammula Pileus convex, margins involled, habit of Lactarius , surface innate, fibrilloose, scaly, up to 8 cm. diameter, variegated cinna- mon-brown & ochraceous-tawny, darker where bruised; flesh thick; gills close, adnate, decurrent by line, yellow, Sanford's brown when bruised; gills narrow, primuline; stipe 25 cm. # 5 mm. diamter, fibrous, fleshy but slightly hollow, fibrillose without Sanford brown on a primuline yellow, smooth ground: flesh darkening to ochraceous- tawny on exposure to air.
