Pileate 2-3 cm, convex to nearly flat; surface of pileate part even, dark brown to blackish brown; margin wavy or undulate; cap 2-3 cm diam., convex to flattened, sometimes with a central depression; gills free, crowded, yellowish-brown to olive-yellow, becoming darker with age; stem 3-5 cm x 0.8-1.2 cm, cylindrical, solid, pale yellow to straw-colored, slightly bulbous at base; flesh white to pale yellow, thin, brittle, odorless; spore print white to pale yellow; spores 7-9 x 4-5 µm, elliptical to oblong, smooth, hyaline; basidia 20-25 x 6-8 µm, clavate, with 4 sterigmata; cheilocystidia absent; pleurocystidia present, 15-25 x 6-10 µm, fusiform, with thickened apex; KOH reaction: yellow to olive-yellow; habitat: solitary or in groups on decaying logs and stumps of conifers; season: late summer to early autumn.
