GED Devil's Hole , DVNM, Ash Meadows, Nye Co., Nevada 18 July 1967 J.E. Deacox, Jim Tener, Steve James) Arrived at about 0600 hrs. and set three vertical lines (of 5, 4, 4 straps) spaced at 10' intervals in the deep end [CSS comment - see map for placement of traplines. All traps except top traps at each line are weighted and rest on the shelf.] and 5[weighted] traps near the bottom on the shelf. Light readings were taken and a water sample for chemical analysis. Water level at 0630 hrs. was 1.86 on the scale. The oxygen probe was placed in the water at 0645 hrs. Many fish could be seen on the shelf - probably ca 200 with all sizes represented except the very tiny ones which I did not look for. Juveniles were seen. Steve James picked two bats out of the water, and I saw several bees get trapped in the water. This may represent a significant energy source to the environment along with the several insects that also get trapped here. Steve James and Jim Tener stayed to measure trapped fish and seine and dip net additional specimens. We captured 22 fish in the bottom trap in the middle line (ca 36' in depth) [~27'] and one fish in the bottom trap of the vertical line nearest the shelf in ca 36' of water. Jim and Steve measured a total of 35 fish and
